Project approach

The project aimed to meet its goals by combining action research with capacity building.

Action research

Action-research focused on two key questions, mainly related to the "how to". The first question focused on "how to" provide multiple-use services. The answers to this question were generated through action research around de facto and planned multiple use services. Stakeholders were involved in framing the local research questions and in carrying out the research.

Learning alliances

The project engaged, informed and strengthened the capacity of project partners and professionals from the domestic and productive water sectors with the aim of scaling up more integrated approaches to water services at local level. This was done in learning alliances. Learning Alliances are platforms bringing together practitioners, researchers and policy makers aimed at sharing insights and joint learning among stakeholders. Through these alliances it was expected to achieve broad ownership of the multiple-use concepts, and strengthened capacity so that findings can be taken to scale. Learning alliances were formed at both national and local levels in each focus country. In addition, the project worked closely with the MUS Group at global level.
