New research in Ethiopia and the Nile Region includes mus component
DFID’s Central Research Department is providing GBP 3.82 million (EUR 5.65 million) for a new 5-year research programme known as RiPPLE (standing for Research-inspired Policy and Practice Learning in Ethiopia and the Nile Region) . This programme will advance evidence based learning on water supply and sanitation (WSS) financing, delivery and sustainability to improve equity of access for the poor. It aims to contribute to MDG objectives by providing new knowledge and skills at all levels to enhance sector financing approaches, improve targeting mechanisms and identify more effective governance arrangements and sustainable technologies.
Working initially in three regions of Ethiopia, the consortium will develop a new body of high quality policy and practice-relevant knowledge through the establishment of Learning and Practice Alliances (LPA) at different levels. In parallel RiPPLE will build outward linkages to networks and partnerships within other Nile region countries. A key objective will be the dissemination of outputs targeted at policy makers, NGO’s and other organisations.
The project is lead by the Overseas Development Institute with the IRC International Water and Sanitation Centre, WaterAid Ethiopia, Institute of Development Research, Addis Ababa University and other partners.
