The third day of the symposium focused on replication, scaling-up and taking the mus approach forward.
Whereas the first day of the symposium focused on more conceptual discussion of what is MUS, and how it can be understood, the second day went into depth on practical service delivery implications.
The first day of the MUS Symposium turned around the objective of getting to a common understanding of what multiple-use services (MUS) means.
“Access to water for basic domestic uses alone is not sufficient. People also require access to water for small-scale productive uses. Food security still is one of the major points on the agenda of the Government of Ethiopia. Food production needs to be stimulated, particularly at the local level. This can also create a bigger impulse to the economies. The provision of access to water for productive uses is crucial in that.” This is how Ethiopia’s Minster for Water Resources opened the MUS symposium, in a speech read by his advisor, Mr Abera Mekonnen.
There are only a few days left before the symposium: Multiple-Use Services; from Practice to Policy starts. In this first blog posting we'll take a sneak preview of what participants can expect.
